About Me ;

Some people spend years searching for the story they want to tell.
Mine found me in the middle of a tabletop campaign, surrounded by snacks, dice, and the kind of friends who enable your worst (and best) creative impulses.

Worldbuilding has always been my favourite form of escapism — a place where magic and myth sit beside messy emotions, stubborn heroines, and the kind of morally questionable men who haunt you long after you close the book. Those late-night TTRPG sessions, fuelled by laughter and chaos, slowly carved out a space in my imagination where a new world began to grow. At first it was just sketches, scraps, “what ifs.” Then it became a universe with rules, history, and a heartbeat.

And eventually, it became a novel.

I’m Rebecca (Most call me Becca), author of The Song Beyond the Ashes, a fantasy worldbuilder, an overthinker with too many notebooks, and an unapologetic lover of stories that hurt a little. Writing has always been the one thing that made sense, even when nothing else did. I grew up collecting worlds — in books, in games, in daydreams — until one day I realised I had built one of my own, piece by stubborn piece.

None of it happened alone.
In fact, blame my friends. They pushed, encouraged, bullied, and lovingly shoved me toward finishing a book I kept telling myself I “wasn’t ready to write.” Without them, Ashes would still be a collection of half-written scenes in a folder called “Eventually.” Their belief in me turned “maybe one day” into “fine, I’m doing it.”

Then there’s my cat, Rogue — named after the class, not the behaviour (though honestly, both apply). He has taken it upon himself to act as editor, muse, productivity saboteur, and paperweight. If you ever find a typo, assume he walked across the keyboard. If you find a chapter that hits you in the feelings, assume he headbutted me into writing it.

When I'm not writing, I’m usually:

• lost in a TTRPG session trying to keep my party alive (Wednesdays and Thursdays - every week, baby.)
• rebuilding parts of my world for absolutely no reason
• redesigning chapters instead of resting like a normal person
• or defending my keyboard from Rogue’s dramatic attempts at sabotage

The Song Beyond the Ashes is the first step into a world that’s lived with me for years — a world shaped by grief, wonder, mythology, late-night chaos, and the people (and one feline) who remind me why storytelling matters. It’s messy and magical and full of fire, just like the journey that created it.

If you’re here, welcome.
Truly.

You’ve stepped into the edge of a world built from ash, emberlight, and far too many caffeine-fuelled decisions. I’m glad you found it.
I hope you stay a while.
